Outremont Summit: Finding Mount Royal’s hidden peak

The city created the park after signing long-term leases for the land.

The western side belongs to the Université de Montréal, which used the area for skiing and storage over the years. The eastern part belongs to the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery, which once planned to build mausoleums with parking in an area known variously as the Boisé Saint Jean Baptiste, the Colline d’Outremont, and Mount Murray.

The park areas are labelled 4 (U de M) and 5 (cemetery) on this old city map.

Here are some photos of the entrances so you’re sure you have reached the right place if you visit.

On the Outremont side, the entrance is on a residential stretch of Mont-Royal Blvd. Look for the green cemetery logo.

On the side that opens to the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood, the entrance is reached via a path that runs between the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery and the Université de Montréal.
